Report from the CFP Board Annual Conference
The CFP Board hosted its annual conference last week for directors of CFP registered education programs. Here are some of the highlights:
- The CFP Board is currently promoting a public awareness campaign to educate the public about the value of utilizing certified financial planner professionals. To view their latest TV Ad spot, click the following link:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLIhtnshN6A&feature=relmfu
- Much of the conference dealt with the new educational requirements that go into effect in 2012. All persons enrolling in CFP education programs after December 31, 2011, will be required to take an additional capstone case study course that will increase significantly the time and expense of completing the program. To avoid this new educational requirement, students must be registered in a Board-registered program before the end of 2011. So, if you are contemplating getting your CFP, now may be the time to get started.
- One breakout session dealt with the need for effective sales training for CFP® Certificants. The CFP® Certification Education Program that Greene Consulting has partnered with several universities to deliver has offered sales training to students for 5 years now, and it’s quickly becoming an important topic with the CFP Board.
- The new exam blueprint, which will begin testing in 2012, was also a topic of several breakout sessions.
